BOAT RAMP AND EMU PARK FORESHORE UPGRADE ON THE CARDS FOR KEPPEL UNDER LABOR

Media Release

Boaties and anglers will benefit from Labor’s pledge to establish a $30 million Marine Infrastructure Fund for Queensland communities that can be delivered without the need for asset sales, Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
Ms Palaszczuk said the fund would be available for various marine projects, such as new boat ramps or upgraded fishing facilities across Queensland to provide new facilities and generate jobs.
“Like all of Labor’s commitments, we can deliver these without selling assets and while paying down debt in a sensible, moderate way,” she said.
“We can also deliver on Labor’s commitments because unlike the LNP we won’t be throwing away the $2 billion a year revenue stream from the government owned businesses the LNP wants to sell.
“Labor recognises the great lifestyle we have in Queensland and we want to do what we can to help Queenslanders enjoy it.
“Marine infrastructure like this will make it easier to access and enjoy a wide range of water activities like boating, fishing and water-skiing.”
Speaking on the Capricorn Coast with Member for Rockhampton Bill Byrne and Labor’s candidate for Keppel, Brittany Lauga, Ms Palaszczuk said a local feasibility study would identify the best location for a new boat ramp.
“We are announcing today that part of the Marine Infrastructure Fund will be allocated to a genuine and comprehensive feasibility study for the Capricornia Coast,” she said.
“We believe the community needs a new boat ramp here on the Capricornia Coast and a feasibility study will help us get the location right, ensure safe access to the water for boaties and maintain the integrity of the local environment.
“I know Brittany will listen to the community and fight tooth and nail to get the right location, see the feasibility study completed and get a fair share of the fund for the local community.”
Ms Palaszczuk also said an Emu Creek foreshore makeover would be started under a future Labor Government and pledged $250,000 from Labor’s Building our Regions fund.
“This is about making sure local economies can grow, communities receive improved services and facilities and local jobs are supported through local infrastructure,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“Today’s announcement will see a $250,000 upgrade the foreshore at Emu Park.
“It will deliver a great outcome for this community and help locals take advantage of the lifestyle and environment in this beautiful part of Queensland.
“Brittany has been calling my office everyday about getting a better deal for Keppel and I know she will continue to be a strong voice for the local area.”
