Labor stands with community, forcing another Newman backflip

Media Release

Shadow Transport Minister Jackie Trad congratulated South Brisbane residents who joined together to force Campbell Newman to backflip on plans to close Dutton Park Train Station.
“This is a huge win for residents who were set to lose a critical piece of local infrastructure under Campbell Newman’s second-rate BaT tunnel,” Ms Trad said.
“Our community rallied together to make sure the Premier knew he wouldn’t get his own way without a fight."
“I’m proud of the stance our community took and I congratulate them on this win.”
Ms Trad said the Premier was fixing a problem he created.
"Only weeks ago the Premier accused the community's rally against the station closure as a ‘political stunt’.
"Let's be clear about where this problem started - Campbell Newman thinks he's a tunnel expert and has ignored the advice of the LNP's hand-picked independent panel of experts who said that Cross River Rail is the best solution to our rail capacity crisis."
“The BaT Tunnel has always been a vanity project for Campbell Newman. It’s about politics to him, not what’s best for Brisbane."
“He could’ve worked with the former Federal Government on the original Cross River Rail project, but he refused simply so he could support the election of the Abbott Government, even though they’ve offered no funds for public transport projects in Brisbane.”
Ms Trad said Newman's BaT project still doesn't stack up.
"Compared to Cross River Rail the BaT tunnel still has fewer and smaller stations, meaning it will fail to meet the future growth of South-East Queensland."
"Cross River Rail is still shovel ready, fully costed and is supported by a broad range of transport experts. By contrast, it appears the unfunded BaT project is being designed on the run."

"The Premier needs to swallow his pride and get on with delivering the right project for Queensland - Cross River Rail."
