NEWMAN GOVERNMENT CHARACTERISED BY FAILURE

Queenslanders have nothing to celebrate today on the anniversary of the election of the Newman government after two years of cuts to jobs and services, attacks on workers’ wages and conditions.
“On the second anniversary we see an LNP-created doctors’ crisis being aggravated by the Health Minister; the Attorney-General sniping at the judiciary and attacking the state’s corruption watchdog; and the Premier locking the community out of Community Cabinets so he doesn’t have to listen to them,” Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“The Newman Government has little to be proud of as it marks two years in office. In fact many Queenslanders will think the only upside is that they have only a year to wait before sending this arrogant LNP Government a message."

“Two years ago the Premier said Ministers would pay the price if they failed to meet promises including cutting power bills and having the state heading to a 4% jobless rate."
“All we have seen are record rises in power bills and our unemployment rate hovering around GFC levels at 6.2%."
“This is a government that also went to the polls saying it would slash water bills but then the Premier reneged on that promise."
“Campbell Newman failed to tell Queenslanders he would sack thousands of men and women on the public service frontline."
“He went to the election neglecting to tell Queenslanders that he would throw the elderly out of nursing homes that he would shut down and sell off schools, and attack worker’s rights."

“He didn’t say he would ignore regional infrastructure needs but kick-start a new Executive Building for himself and his Ministers in Brisbane that will cost taxpayers $2.6 billion. But taxpayers will never own it or the seven buildings sold off to justify it."
“He failed to warn community groups that he would axe their funding. He didn’t tell anyone that he would stop listening and he would refuse to consult with Queenslanders within weeks of becoming Premier.”
Ms Palaszczuk said in addition to its appalling track record, the LNP government had been rocked by scandals involving three Ministers and had lost four MPs.
“Now the Premier and his Health Minister have launched a full-scale assault on our specialist doctors and by doing so Queensland is facing the very real situation where our public hospital system could grind to a halt,” she said.
“The Premier and the Treasurer are also planning a mass sell-off of assets and despite saying they would listen to and consult with Queenslanders, they have failed to do that."
“Queenslanders now recognise this government for what it is – they see the extreme arrogance of a government that refuses to hear their concerns."

“Given the damage this government has done in just two years, Queenslanders are right to believe nothing will change over the next year before the next election.”
