ABBOTT MUST GET ON WITH DELIVERING THE NDIS

Media Release

Thursday, 20 March 2014

The review on the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) released today confirms that the NDIS is a reform long overdue.
Labor congratulates the staff at the NDIA on their hard work getting the NDIS up and running.
People with disability, their carers and families have waited their whole lives for the NDIS.
Let’s be absolutely clear - the needs of people with disability, their carers and families determined the timetable for the NDIS – not politics.
Is Senator Fifield implying that the more than 2,500 people who already have approved care packages under the NDIS should wait even longer?
Labor will continue to fight for people with disability - from Opposition, as we did in Government.
This is what Senator Fifield should be doing too.
Instead, all we ever hear from the Minister are negative stories about the NDIS.
Last month Senator Fifield deliberately misrepresented numbers in the NDIA’s second quarterly report to make outrageous and irresponsible claims of a cost blowout.

If the Prime Minister is as committed to the NDIS as he says he is, he should tell his Minister to get on with the job of delivering the NDIS. People with disability are counting on him.
