Opposition
Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk will today seek a formal apology from the
Treasurer and Education Minister in relation to sexist comments directed
at her on the floor of Parliament
yesterday.
Ms
Palaszczuk said Queensland expected and deserved better from a
government which had pledged to rule with “humility, grace and dignity”.
“Sexist, juvenile taunts are not acceptable anywhere – let alone on the floor of the Parliament,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“I
can take a joke but this was completely inappropriate and I’m sure all
Queensland women would be offended that their elected representatives
would be carrying on in such an undignified manner."
“I
have written to the Speaker to seek a full apology not just because
these comments were offensive but because it was not isolated behaviour
from one MP."
“This
was the Treasurer and the Education Minister– two of this government’s
most senior Ministers - working in tandem, using comments that should
never have been said."
“This is not the sort of behaviour Queenslanders expect from people who are supposed to be role models."
“It
was an affront to all women – not to mention the group of school
children who were subjected to this disgrace while they were in the
public gallery.”
